SARASOTA - A convicted burglar is back behind bars, despite his claims of good intentions.
Sarasota Police have charged 39-year-old Gerald Maxwell with Burglary and Violation of Probation.  Officers arrested him Tuesday night as he was breaking into a home in the 2000 block of Chippewa Place - the same home he burglarized just last year.
Upon being taken into custody after walking out of the house, Maxwell stated "I was going back in there to leave a thank you note, because I'm the guy who burglarized this place last year; I just got out of jail," according to a police department report.
Officers investigating the incident found a broken window, multiple dresser drawers open, and jewelry collected near a crack pipe.
This is the sixth burglary Sarasota Police have arrested Maxwell for in just the last three years.
Maxwell is being held in the Sarasota County Jail without bond.
