How to create a hardware independent sysprepped WIM image of Windows XP for deployment from Windows Deployment Services

This is a step-by-step guide on how to create a hardware independent sysprepped WIM image of Windows XP for deployment from Windows Deployment Services.

This guide is from Ashley's Tech Blog
This guide is still a draft as there are a few small changes that should be made to it as noted throughout the document with links to the bottom of the post. I have tested this guide on multiple series of HP business desktops and laptops and an old Toshiba laptop without too much trouble. Please feel free to comment on this guide as I will update it with changes as required.

- UpdateInstalledDrivers=Yes - Reinstall all present drivers when mini-setup starts. Very important.
In order to successfully make this setup work on any system configuration, you will have to use UpdateInstalledDrivers=Yes, which will clean the entire Device Manager, except non-PnP and HAL.
This will ensure that all VMware drivers are removed and your setup will install the proper drivers for the system it is being executed on.

As you can see, there are a lot of entries in the section. These are plug and play identifiers for mass storage drivers and their location. If it didn't insert any, your device path is invalid and you forgot to add the \WINDOWS\Inf path to the Sysprep Driver Scanner. Check it in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\DevicePath. Note that Sysprep takes ~1 second to add each entry.

Here, you will find links to VirtualBox binaries and its source code.

VirtualBox binaries

The binaries in this section are all released under the VirtualBox Personal Use and Evaluation License (PUEL). By downloading, you agree to the terms and conditions of that license.
  • VirtualBox 3.2.8 for Windows hosts x86/amd64
  • VirtualBox 3.2.8 for Solaris and OpenSolaris hosts x86/amd64
VirtualBox is a general-purpose full virtualizer for x86 hardware. Targeted at server, desktop and embedded use, it is now the only professional-quality virtualization solution that is also Open Source Software.
Some of the features of VirtualBox are:
  • Modularity. VirtualBox has an extremely modular design with well-defined internal programming interfaces and a client/server design. This makes it easy to control it from several interfaces at once: for example, you can start a virtual machine in a typical virtual machine GUI and then control that machine from the command line, or possibly remotely. VirtualBox also comes with a full Software Development Kit: even though it is Open Source Software, you don't have to hack the source to write a new interface for VirtualBox.
  • Virtual machine descriptions in XML. The configuration settings of virtual machines are stored entirely in XML and are independent of the local machines. Virtual machine definitions can therefore easily be ported to other computers.

'Jersey Shore' Adds "Deena Nicole Cortese" To The Cast New Jersey native is a longtime friend of Snooki's.

email post
[deena nicole cortese]

There's a new guidette in the house, and she's ready to party.
On Friday (August 6), MTV announced that New Jersey native Deena Nicole Cortese has joined the cast of "Jersey Shore." A longtime friend of show favorite Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, Cortese is currently shooting with the rest of the crew in Seaside Heights, New Jersey.
She joins the original castmembers, which includes Snooki, Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino, Jenni "JWoww" Farley, Ronnie Magro, Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola, Paul "DJ Pauly D" Del Vecchio and Vinny Guadagnino. The Cortese news was revealed at the Friday meeting of the Television Critics Association.
Cortese, 23, describes herself as "class in a glass and party in a body." (There's no word on whether she, too, has a Snooki-esque nickname.) If possible, she plans to bring even more partying to the hit series. "I bring a lot of energy into the house," she told The Associated Press. "I party."
The second season of the reality series premiered last week to a record-breaking 5.3 million viewers. The eight housemates are shot season two in Miami, heating up the Florida club scene and creating at-home drama.
Are you excited to get some fresh blood in the "Jersey Shore" house? Let us know in the comments!
Don't miss "Jersey Shore" every Thursday at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.

Doba Review - Is Doba worth joining?

Doba Review - Is Doba worth joining?
by salehoo_group

Doba has gained a good reputation and has some great reviews on the web for providing a sourcing directory specializing in drop shippers. But would the reality live up to the hype? I decided to find out and give it a review …
For first impressions, Doba gets full marks. It’s an attractive, well-laid out website and easily draws you in with the comforting promise of fraud protection and reimbursement of fraudulent orders for qualifying sellers - very reassuring for new sellers wary of being ripped off!
Doba claims an impressive 33%-75% profit margins on their stock – another reason why this directory appeals! However, I’d treat this figure with caution. While Doba undoubtedly has some good sources that will give you a high profit margin in this range, a more realistic figure for the majority would likely be around 10%-30%.
Unless you are a reseller who is lucky enough to be selling vast quantities of stock, you are unlikely to get cheaper wholesale prices than these. Doba compares well with other wholesale offers, but it won’t provide anything extra. Those extra-sweet deals will only be found one way: and that’s by you!
Remember that directories are a great booster to begin your selling career. They make it so much easier and faster to get started…and to get some cash in your pocket. But you shouldn’t solely rely on them to make your millions in the long term.
The secret to using Doba well is to use it as a way of getting started, rather than pinning all your hopes on it for the long term. Then, either work on developing good relationships with several of the suppliers you have found – until you get to the point where you can bargain for better prices – or, use the knowledge and confidence you have gained from dealing with these suppliers to branch off on your own research.
Despite Doba’s very tempting offer of allowing you to pay for goods only after you sell them, I recommend purchasing your items in bulk before you list them. Although Doba generally provides a good service, occasionally there are unavoidable hiccups with drop shipping, and it can be very embarrassing when a customer has purchased an item, but the drop-shipper is out of stock. Let me be very clear that this is not a problem isolated to Doba – all dropshippers can suddenly run out of stock without warning leaving you in the lurch unless you take precautions.
I was very impressed by Doba’s great selection of free articles written by eBay powerseller, consultant, and former eBay employee Stuart Lisonbee. They were interesting, informative, and very focused on Doba’s target audience - anyone interested in taking advantage of drop shipping. These are well worth a read!
Doba also provides a newsletter and regular press releases keeping you informed and up to date.
All in all, Doba is a good product. Although the price is steeper than other directories, members with reasonable expectations feel that it is good value.
Doba compliments SaleHoo fantastically by focusing almost solely on drop shipping, while SaleHoo provides a broad range of wholesale suppliers, drop shippers and bulk wholesalers. Sign up for Doba’s free trial (only valid in USA and Canada) and check out their sources.
