Cloud Platform Blog: Google App Engine PHP Runtime now available to everyone

email post
At Google I/O earlier this year, we added PHP, the fourth language runtime on Google App Engine in Limited Preview. Today we’re moving to Preview, making PHP on App Engine available for everyone immediately. It is no longer necessary to whitelist your application for deployment.

PHP is one of the world’s most popular programming languages for web programming today. Since the runtime was launched at Google I/O earlier this year, thousands of developers around the world have started using App Engine for PHP, taking advantage App Engine’s legendary scalability and ease of use to run popular PHP products like phpMyAdmin, Drupal andphpBB and frameworks such as Laravel, Silex and CodeIgniter. And as you would expect, you can use Google APIs such as Drive and Google+ on App Engine.

Google Web Designer beta now available to download. Building beautiful HTML5 creative with ease.

email post
By now, it’s evident that multi-screen consumption is the way of the future; mobile and tablet devices are becoming consumers’ first screens, so the content that is developed needs to work seamlessly across these screens. There are already more end-users in HTML5-compatible environments than there are in Flash-compatible environments, and HTML5 ad spend is expected to overtake Flash spend within the next two years (1). But until recently, advertisers and publishers didn't have the tools they needed to easily develop content fit for today's cross-screen experiences.

Build once, run anywhere
We’re working hard to solve this development challenge by offering powerful yet easy-to-use tools for HTML5 production. In this vein, we announced DoubleClick Studio Layouts for HTML5 back in August (also available to DFP Premium publishers using DoubleClick Studio), which lets you create HTML5 ads in minutes, and last week we announced Ready Creatives in AdWords, which creates HTML5 ads for you in seconds.

Today, we’re excited to announce the public beta of Google Web Designer, a new professional-quality design tool that makes HTML5 creative accessible to everyone from the designer to the dabbler.

Google Web Designer enables you to:

  1. Create animated HTML5 creative, with a robust, yet intuitive set of design tools.
  2. View and edit the code behind your designs and see your edits reflected back on the stage automatically.
  3. Build ad creatives seamlessly for DoubleClick and AdMob, or publish them to any generic environment you choose.
  4. Receive updates to the product automatically, without having to re-download the application.
  5. Access all of this entirely for free.

Watch the Demo: A quick glimpse of Google Web Designer

Ready to give it a spin?
  • Download Google Web Designer.
  • Read through our getting started guide
  • Send us feedback! We need your input to make this tool even better, so share your ideas with us in our user forum or on our Google+ page. We’re working hard over the next couple quarters to add new features and improvements to make the product an even more robust offering.
HTML5 is a universal language for building beautiful, engaging content that can run across desktops, smartphones, and tablets. We think that Google Web Designer will be the key to making HTML5 accessible to people throughout the industry, getting us closer to the goal of “build once, run anywhere.”

Enable Google Toolbar in Firefox 5

email post

Enable Google Toolbar in Firefox 5

If you've installed Firefox 5 and noticed that Google Toolbar wasn't updated to support the new Firefox release, there's a simple way to enable the extension:
install the Add-on Compatibility Reporter. "After installing the Add-on Compatibility Reporter, your incompatible extensions will become enabled for you to test whether they still work with the version of Firefox or Thunderbird that you're using." This should only be a temporary solution until Google Toolbar and other extensions update their compatibility list.

Enable google toolbar for Firefox 5
Firefox 5 Google toolbar extension
Google Toolbar 7 works well in Firefox 5, especially considering that the new Firefox version didn't make too many important extension-related changes.

Firefox's faster release cycle, inspired by Google Chrome, has an important downside: extension developers need to update their extensions more frequently and update the list of Firefox versions that are supported. Mozilla alleviated this problem by automatically marking almost 4,000 extensions as compatible with Firefox 5, but Google Toolbar is not hosted by Mozilla and it's downloaded from Google's servers.

He investigated emission spectra of heated elements, and discovered caesium (in 1860) and rubidium (in 1861) with Gustav Kirchhoff. Bunsen developed several gas-analytical methods, was a pioneer in photochemistry, and did early work in the field of organoarsenic chemistry. With his laboratory assistant, Peter Desaga, he developed the Bunsen burner, an improvement on the laboratory burners then in use. Chrome OS news of GPU acceleration!

email post

GPU acceleration + old drivers = :(

Over the last few months, we’ve made a lot of progress using graphics hardware (commonly referred to as the GPU) to make Chrome faster and more power-efficient. However, as we’ve rolled out features like WebGL and GPU-accelerated HTML5 video, we noticed a troubling trend: users with old graphics drivers experienced a significant increase in crashes when using these features. Because stability is one of Google Chrome’s core principles, we’ve recently become stricter about requiring up-to-date drivers and graphics hardware by adding ranges of old drivers to Google Chrome’s software rendering list.

Developers should continue to ensure that the software-rendered version of their sites work properly for users without GPU-accelerated browsers, so we expect most content to continue to function normally for Google Chrome users with out-of-date drivers -- albeit, without the same performance you might expect from Chrome. WebGL content on out-of-date systems will currently not display, but we are working to provide a software path so that these systems can run basic 3D applications.
As our ability to determine whether a machine can reliably use GPU features improves, we hope to extend hardware acceleration support to more and more users. Here are some steps you can take to maximize the chances that Chrome will run fully hardware-accelerated on your computer:
  1. Use the latest major version of your operating system (such as Windows 7 or Mac OS 10.6)
  2. Install all system updates and driver updates that are available for your system.

Jules Verne

email post

Jules Verne

Jules Verne (Jules Verne, 1828.2.8 ~ 1905) was born in Nantes, western France, the harbor, he constitutes a part of the city on the river Feiyi De Lao Aer island living and learning to graduate from high school. Father was a highly successful lawyer, as one hopes inherited his father. But Verne childhood love the ocean, longing for adventure voyage. 11 years old, he volunteers on board when the interns, India voyage, the results found by his family back home. Dayton beat Jules Verne has endured this, and lying in bed with tears that: "In the future to ensure that only travel in the fantasy of lying in bed." Perhaps it is precisely because of this childhood experience, the objective to promote Verne surf in the fantasy life, to create so many famous science fiction works.

At 18, he told his father to comply, to Paris to study law, but he was not interested in the law, but fell in love with literature and drama. Time, from a Jules Verne or early evening, when he suddenly innocence down big time, leisurely slide down the handrails along the stairs, do not want a fat gentleman who was hit. Jules Verne is very embarrassing apologies casually asked not to eat each other, the other replied, just had scrambled eggs Nantes. Jules Verne, shaking his head after hearing, claiming that there is no authentic Paris, Nantes scrambled eggs, because he is human and good dish of Nantes. Fat gentleman heard rejoicing, invites performed Verne door. Two of friendship from the beginning, and once to write a drama, for the Jules Verne took the road of creating favorable conditions. The fat gentleman's name is - Alexandre Dumas. After graduation, he was obsessed with poetry and drama of the creative input, this not only severely reprimanded by his father and lost his father's financial support. He had to struggle in poverty, to read for pleasure. He admired Hugo, Balzac, Dumas and Shakespeare in England. In Paris, he created 20 scripts (unpublished), and some poetry is full of romantic passion.

Later, Jules Verne and Alexandre Dumas co-writing the screenplay "broken straw" and can be staged, which marks the Jules Verne in the literature have achieved initial success. Continue the creative process, Jules Verne was a lack of literature seems way out, and he discovered that the literary world who are finding a way, other areas are trying to melt into the drama of knowledge. Such as Alexandre Dumas is melting into the history of literature, and social ethics Balzac put into literature ... ... At this time financial Verne found that only geography has not yet been developed.

So Verne tested using one year, creating a "glacier above the winter" and other works, but not published.

1856 Verne train to the northern city of Amiens, met a beautiful widow with two children, saw the end of love and marry him, and then get married. Then move past Verne, began serious production. The time 29 years old.

Jules Verne create a "balloon on the five weeks", the 16 publishers ignored, angrily into the fire, rescue by his wife, sent to 17 publishing houses after publication. Herzl called the book's editors appreciated, from Jules Verne met Concert, forged lifelong friendships with them. Hegel signed a contract with the Jules Verne, published in the year two of its science fiction.

"Balloon on the five weeks" after the publication of Jules Verne's creation has entered a period of many aspects of exploration, he tested a variety of writing, the direction toward a variety of exploration, out of control. Two published annually, the general heading of "strange trip", including "geocentric Travels," "From the Earth to the Moon" "around the Moon," "Haideliangmoli" "Mysterious Island" and so on, to include land, sea and sky ... ... After exploring stop, began to mature into a stable period of development, creating a "80 days around the Earth," "The Adventures of the solar system" (Chinese translation of "big raft") "two-leave" and other outstanding works. As the popularity increased, the Jules Verne's wealth is growing rapidly.

Jules Verne's later years is not very happy, creative and enter the weak reduction of its "Kaer Ba Qian's Castle" has some autobiographical, showing the hidden side of life.

March 17, 1905 Jules Verne appears paralysis, loss of consciousness 24, 25 8:00 on the morning of the death.

March 28, 1905 a large funeral procession, around the world have electronic condolence in tribute to the great science fiction writer.

Jules Verne story vivid and humorous, witty phenomena, but also inspire people, especially young love science, yearning passion for adventure, so a hundred years, has been welcomed by readers around the world. According to UNESCO data show that Jules Verne is the world's most translated work of one of the ten masters.

Jules Verne is an excellent writer of popular fiction, there is a way to get the illusion of their own ability to touch, the feeling is comprehensive, from the dull literature conveys a human passions. But the characters in Jules Verne's novel is exactly the same apart from a few outside, he seems to create no more important figure, the characters are simply bad and good profiling, there is no mental activity; characters from the works of a single sex He can also be seen on the woman's prejudice, faintly showing by its bitter state of mind. Besides the works of Jules Verne is full of clear social orientation, is a patriot (preferably French), National Liberation advocates (to support the struggle of oppressed peoples), to some extent is an anarchist (from Some works show no order), with a galactic imperialists finally (with the desire to create a universal empire.)

Verne's works are full of knowledge, but he himself is a mystic universe, the world has a mysterious cult. In his novels, sometimes deep enough to think the theme is often repeated.

But in general, Jules Verne attempt is still great. Although he wrote all ordinary matter, but still make us excited about reading. As the Pope met with Verne in 1884 when he said: "I do not know the scientific value of your work, but I treasure the most is their pure, moral values and spiritual strength."

Security issue in Website Optimiser

email post

Security issue in Website Optimiser

Dear Website Optimiser user,

We are writing to inform you of a potential security issue with Website Optimiser. By exploiting a vulnerability in the Website Optimiser Control Script, an attacker might be able to execute malicious code on your site using a Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) attack. This attack can only take place if a website or browser has already been compromised by a separate attack. While the immediate probability of this attack is low, we urge you to take action to protect your site.

We have fixed the bug, and all new experiments are not susceptible. However, any experiments you are currently running need to be updated to fix the bug on your site. Additionally, if you have any Website Optimiser scripts from paused or stopped experiments created before 3 December 2010, you will need to remove or update that code as well.

There are two ways to update your code. You can either stop current experiments, remove the old scripts and create a new experiment, or you can update the code on your site directly. We strongly recommend creating a new experiment as it is the simpler method.

Creating a New Experiment

  1. Stop any currently running Website Optimiser experiments
  2. Remove all the Website Optimiser scripts from your site
  3. Create a new experiment as normal. New experiments are not vulnerable.

Updating the Website Optimizer Control Script Directly

  1. Locate the Control Script on your site. It looks like this:
A/B Test Control Script
<!-- Google Website Optimiser Control Script -->
<script>
function utmx_section(){}function utmx(){}
(function(){var k='XXXXXXXXXX',d=document,l=d.location,c=d.cookie;function f(n){
if(c){var i=c.indexOf(n+'=');if(i>-1){var j=c.indexOf(';',i);return c.substring(i+n.
length+1,j<0?c.length:j)}}}var x=f('__utmx'),xx=f('__utmxx'),h=l.hash;
d.write('<sc'+'ript src="'+
'http'+(l.protocol=='https:'?'s://ssl':'://www')+'.google-analytics.com'

</script><script>utmx("url",'A/B');</script>
<!-- End of Google Website Optimizer Control Script -->
Multivariate Test Control Script
<!-- Google Website Optimizer Control Script -->
<script>
function utmx_section(){}function utmx(){}
(function(){var k='XXXXXXXXXX',d=document,l=d.location,c=d.cookie;function f(n){
if(c){var i=c.indexOf(n+'=');if(i>-1){var j=c.indexOf(';',i);return c.substring(i+n.
length+1,j<0?c.length:j)}}}var x=f('__utmx'),xx=f('__utmxx'),h=l.hash;
d.write('<sc'+'ript src="'+

+new Date().valueOf()+(h?'&utmxhash='+escape(h.substr(1)):'')+
'" type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></sc'+'ript>')})();
</script>
<-- End of Google Website Optimizer Control Script -->
  1. Locate the following in the Control Script: return c.substring(...
  2. Modify the following line as shown:
    BEFORE: return c.substring(i+n.length+1,j<0?c.length:j)
    FIXED: return escape(c.substring(i+n.length+1,j<0?c.length:j))
    Make sure to include the final closing brackets “)”
Fixed A/B Control Script
<!-- Google Website Optimizer Control Script -->
<script>
function utmx_section(){}function utmx(){} (function(){var k='XXXXXXXXXX',d=document,l=d.location,c=d.cookie;function f(n){ if(c){var i=c.indexOf(n+'=');if(i>-1){var j=c.indexOf(';',i);

Fixed Multivariate Control Script
<!-- Google Website Optimizer Control Script -->
<script>
function utmx_section(){}function utmx(){}
(function(){var k='XXXXXXXXXX',d=document,l=d.location,c=d.cookie;function f(n){
if(c){var i=c.indexOf(n+'=');if(i>-1){var j=c.indexOf(';',i);
return escape(c.substring(i+n.length+1,j<0?c.length:j))}}}
var x=f('__utmx'),xx=f('__utmxx'),h=l.hash; d.write('<sc'+'ript src="'+
'http'+(l.protocol=='https:'?'s://ssl':'://www')+'.google-analytics.com'
+'/siteopt.js?v=1&utmxkey='+k+'&utmx='+(x?x:'')+'&utmxx='+(xx?xx:'')+'&utmxtime='
+new Date().valueOf()+(h?'&utmxhash='+escape(h.substr(1)):'')+
'" type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></sc'+'ript>')})();
</script>
<-- End of Google Website Optimizer Control Script -->

Note that the k=XXXXXXXXX line in the above Control Script examples is a placeholder.

Your experiment will continue as normal after you’ve made this update. There’s no need to pause or restart the experiment.

We’re committed to keeping Website Optimiser secure, and we’re deeply sorry for this issue. We will continue to work hard to prevent future vulnerabilities.

Yours sincerely,
Trevor

sections Gmail
Priority InboxBeta
Welcome to Priority Inbox! By automatically separating out your most important messages, Priority Inbox makes it easy for you to read and respond to the messages that matter.

Get through your email faster

sections Try reading and replying to the messages in the "Important and Unread" section first. Mark anything that requires follow-up with a star, then go through the "Everything Else" section. If you leave Priority Inbox, you can return to it by clicking the link next to Inbox on the side navigation of Gmail.

How it works

Gmail's servers look at several types of information to identify the email that's important to you, including who you email and chat with most, how often you email these people and which keywords frequently appear in the emails that you read.

Train Priority Inbox

If Priority Inbox makes a mistake, you can use the Mark important Mark not important buttons to correctly mark a conversation as important or not important and Priority Inbox will quickly learn what you care about most.

And more...

  • Customise Priority Inbox: You can change what type of email you see in each section (such as switching the "Important and Unread" section to just "Important"). Simply click on the section headers or visit the Priority Inbox tab under Settings to customise.
  • Use filters to guarantee importance: If you want to be absolutely sure that some messages are always marked as important (such as emails from your boss), you can set up a filter and choose "Always mark it as important."
  • Search by importance: If you want to see all the messages that have been marked as important, both read and unread, perform a Gmail search for "is:important."
  • Switching back to your old inbox: If Priority Inbox isn't for you, you can easily switch back to your normal inbox by clicking "Inbox" on the left or hide Priority Inbox altogether from Gmail Settings.
